The four-chapter visual of Mulan Xu

The Mulan Xu AI Theater is now live. What follows is what we observed in the days after launch — and what it actually is.

I. It Is Not a Test

First, what it is. The Mulan Xu AI Theater is an interactive drama: you step into a character, standing in for Hua Mulan, from the night call-up papers of Northern Wei to the beacon-fire road home. Five acts, 151 decision points, seven AI companions, five endings.

Nor is it a game. No scores, no leaderboards, no "optimal answer". None of your choices will be judged right or wrong; they are only recorded, then handed back to you at the ending.

  • How to enterRegistration required (email or phone). The theater keeps your sequence of choices, so you can pick up where you left off next time.
  • LengthA full walk takes about 40–70 minutes. It can be done in sittings; progress is saved automatically.
  • AI companionsSeven, each with a position and a voice of their own. They remember what you say and bring it up in later scenes.
  • Five endingsNot ranked from good to bad. They are five shapes of a life.

II. Four Things We Observed After Launch

  • First, how long people stay.Completion ran clearly past expectation. Most people, once into Act Two, walk to the end — which says the density of decision points is right.
  • Second, two kinds of people in the same day. Some settle their route at choice No. 3 and never waver; some are still weighing back and forth past the seventieth choice. The endings written by the latter tend to be finer.
  • Third, the ones who stop. The group that concerned us most: around the 150th choice they paused, came back a day later, and finished. In follow-up interviews they all said some version of the same sentence: "The last choice is too heavy. I don't want to tap it casually."
  • Fourth, the ones who walk it again.A fair share of users return a second time and deliberately take the road they refused the first. What they want to see is not another ending — it is another self.

No scores, no leaderboards.
Every choice you make is handed back to you in the end.

III. Its Relation to the Quick Test

If you only want a first glance at your own outline, take the "5-minute quick assessment": no registration, 12 sets of scenario questions, results on the spot, covering the 16 Mulan personality types and five dimensions.

The AI Theater is its deep water. The quick test tells you which type you lean toward; the theater lets you see, inside concrete situations, why you are that type.

  • Quick assessmentNo registration · about 5 minutes · 16 types + five-dimension radar · results on the spot
  • AI TheaterRegistration required · 40–70 minutes · 151 choices · resumable across sittings · five endings
  • In-person assessmentMulan Maison, Hangzhou · 3 hours · team decision sandbox · for companies and teams

IV. On Boundaries

Mulan Xu is an experience of cultural inspiration and self-exploration. All AI characters on the platform are virtual, not real people, and not professional counseling; assessment results are for self-exploration only and constitute no medical or psychological diagnosis. Not available to minors.

Our intent in building it was simple: MBTI asks how you think, astrology looks at when you were born — Mulan Xu watches what you do.

V. How to Enter

The entrance is on the Mulan Xu main site. When you finish, you receive a result card of your own, and a cup of the signature tea that matches it — that is what "after you see yourself, come home to tea" means.
