05 · Hangzhou · World

Setting out from Hangzhou,
to share the table with the world.

Rooted in Hangzhou. Open to the world.

Born in Hangzhou · 生於杭州

One city,
holding two kinds of time.

Hangzhou has its tea hills and the Grand Canal — and glass, code, and new speed. The East, slow. The present, fast. In this city, neither disturbs the other.

Born in Hangzhou — not to leave the East in the past, but to let it walk into today.

A single name,
a whole world.

One name. One world.

THE FIRST GARDEN · 生於杭州的起點

Born in a tea garden,
raised in a protected reserve.

The tea of Mulan begins with a cup of West Lake Longjing. The family garden lies inside the Grade-1 Protected Base of the West Lake Longjing tea area — 101 mu held by the Lingyin administration, marked by a stele set up by the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government in 2004. A second-generation tea farmer and a new-generation ICH tea master: she learned plucking, withering and pan-firing beside her parents until the measure of each bud and leaf became instinct in her hands; today she puts on her bamboo hat and walks international guests down the rows, telling the world about this terroir. Born in Hangzhou — first the family tea, then Mulan.

Mulan tea's first landmark is West Lake Longjing. From here set out the later mountains: Wuyi, Yiwu, Nannuoshan.

Pre-Qingming Freshness
Is Made by Waiting

From Jingzhe to the spring equinox, a leaf grows only fractions of a millimetre a day. The pre-Qingming picking window is counted in days — one day early and one day late make two different teas. Some sixty thousand fresh buds go into one jin (500 g) of finished tea; every March the farmers pick the leaf by hand, strictly to standard, so that each bud comes with its leaf, tender and even. Four framed scenes, from the mountain to the cup.

Beside the mother trees,
fifty metres further in.

The first core garden Mulan held outside Hangzhou is in the heart of the Wuyi scenic area — beside the Da Hong Pao mother trees, about fifty metres up the path: a long, narrow garden left by the elders of Tianxin village. This plot, kept by a grandfather's generation, is where Mulan's yancha begins, and the landmark of the small mountain sites behind every Mulan release.

From the family tea of Hangzhou to the mountains of Wuyi, Mulan has locked 30+ long-term partner gardens across the five core regions of China — Yunnan · Fujian · Zhejiang · Anhui · Guangdong — with a dedicated primary-processing station in each region, so no leaf waits more than four hours from picking to first craft. Every mountain has its temper; the standard stays the same.

From East to World · 走向世界

The world is not far away.
It is the next tea table.

We copy no single storefront, and we do not turn the East into an exotic symbol. Between cultures, one thing stays unchanged — our sense of measure, and our way of hosting guests.
